NOTES

I have no evidence to support the matter either way but would remind collectors of the wise statement Caveat emptor when dealing with acetates. They were a standard recording media of the period and blank discs were sold by the tin full. Just because it is an EMI acetate does not guarantee that it was cut by or for EMI or the Beatles or that it contains any rare or new Beatles material.

Auction description - Apr 2013

INSANELY RARE ORIGINAL 1963 EMI/PARLOPHONE WORK-IN-PROGRESS ACETATE WITH THE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TAKE OF THE LEGENDARY SONG The differences between this demo take and the final, released version of the song are small and subtle, but fairly audible. Firstly, on this version, the spoken intro (1...2....3....4...) is significantly less audible than on the released version (it is present, but appears somewhat subdued or supressed); some of George Harrison's lead guitar lines are slightly, yet audibly, different; finally - and this is perhaps the most pronounced difference - the backing vocals are much more crude and unpolished and much less synchronized than on the final, released version. There are also other minute and subtle differences in the levels of and relations of instruments, but they are too ephemeral and metaphysical to be of major significance or to merit much discussion here.

This acetate is in about VERY GOOD (VG) condition, with many small, but entirely light and superficial scuffs. Absolutely NO part of the shellac (surface layer) of the disc is  missing, and the surface layer is NOT dented, chipped, broken or otherwise compromised.

Auction description - August 2007

On offer here is a UK  acetate of the Beatles, "17". This  10 inch, one sided ,45 rpm ,mono acetate has Emidisc label with the handwritten titles , and cut by Emidisc London. The blank side of the disc shows the Emidisc manufacturing stamp. This song was released as ' I Saw Her Standing There ' on the "Please Please Me" lp by Parlophone in 1963 .As I know it has never been released as a single in  the UK .This acetate version is  different from the released one  (... mistake in lyrics ,there is  no claping ) In spite of the age, the acetate is in surprisingly good condition. Visually graded VG , plays very well, with  usual background crackle throughout. As with most acetates of this age, it has got a lot of surface marks. There are no serious scratches, no skips or jumps . Original Parlophone sleeve.

This disc (which has got typical smell of acetate) is not in as perfect condition as the other acetates you can see on Ebay ,however ,it is a rare item. This acetate (similar to my other acetates on ebay) came from a collection that was a part of inheritance. I managed to buy this collection a few years ago. As I know the original owner worked for EMI,Germany.I have no further information of its origin.
