September 2001 - Tree
Note.. this is an announcement of the disc's contents, NOT a request
for tree info. Not yet. Listening to a test burn I've decided that I'm
not happy with IATW and am taking it back in the shop for a tune-up.
However it should be done and ready to roll within a few days.
Men and Horses, Hoops and Garters -- CD length: 75:50.
As the title suggests, there is some sleight of hand at work here. This
is a collection of tracks that were created by combining various
versions of certain songs. Many times this resulted in a "before and
after" image, much like what was done with "Yes It Is" on Anthology 2
(which was the inspiration for this effort). In other cases, new and
unique mixes have been created.
The Track List:
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
One of the best remixes I've heard utilizing the 5.1 tracks from
Kaleidoscope. Contributed by a Beatleg list member.
With A Little Help From My Friends
Oopsed version of the remix from Yellow Sub Songtrack. This one draws
your attention to Lennon's vocals, and the inverted chord structure of
their background harmonies. Drums and Ringo's vocals are greatly
diminished.
Glass Onion
In two parts. Part one (a contribution) is a sweet version of the
Anthology 3 track with most of the giggling, goofing and sloppiness
edited out leaving a poignant performance of the song. Part two is the
second half of the cv.
And I Love Her
The rehearsal take from Anthology1 x-faded into the cv during the guitar
break.
She Loves You
The best stereo version I've heard of this song. Although the hi-hats
don't quite match, every other part of the performance is synched nearly
flawlessly! Especially stunning when heard on headphones; the doubling
of the guitars and vocals on the chorus makes this a true power pop
performance. Contributed by a Beatleg list member.
Eight Days A Week
The cv book-ended with session banter. Nice how the intro "oooh"s
overlap with the fade-in of the cv.
She's A Woman
Take one x-faded with the cv. It's all about the arrangement, baby!
Good Morning, Good Morning
One of my favorites, this one combines five different sources into a
mini documentary of the song. GM's commentary, the animal effects
track, Lennon's home demo, the Anthology track and the cv are all
blended together for this one.
I Me Mine
A rehearsal take x-faded into the cv. Interesting how smoothly they
merge.
Honey Pie
The Kinfauns demo x-faded into the cv. Some tempo adjustment was needed
to make this work. This track emphasizes how much more fun the demo is
to listen to than the cv.
It's Only Love
A rehearsal take x-faded into the cv. Nothing special about this one,
but I love the song and any chance I get to lengthen it is fine with me!
Get Back
The extended ending version, fades out and in a la "Strawberry Fields".
A list member contribution.
Sour Milk Sea
My biggest challenge to date, combining the Kinfauns demo with the
Jackie Lomax recording. When it works (about 80% of the song), the
effect is very intriguing.
I Am The Walrus
Another challenge, creating a full stereo version (and avoiding the
dreaded phase ghost). Combines the cv, the Anthology track and the
extended ending version booted on Yellow Dog.
Old Brown Shoe
X-fades the Anthology demo with the cv at the middle 8. The dual lead
guitars almost work here.
Why Don't We Do It In The Road
Combines the Anthology demo with the cv. A very interesting
counterpoint between the two performances, same key and essentially the
same tempo, they blend very nicely.
What You're Doing
Combines the rehearsal (from TMODM) with the cv. A bit of digital cut
and paste added some dramatic effect to the segue.
Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey
The Kinfauns demo x-faded with the cv. Some slight tempo adjustment
needed here as well, but the x-fade works!
Across The Universe
The version referred to in Steve Shorten's intro to the 910 guide. By
far, my favorite version of the song. A contribution from off list.
Let It Be
The double length lead guitar version (George's leads presented
consecutively, not simultaneously).
Isn't It A Pity/Hey Jude
Plagiarism? nah... George just knows the worlds biggest hit when he
steals it. Did I say that out loud?
