The final release from the collaboration between Yellow Dog Europe and Japan, despite being scheduled for a European release, unfortunately as the result of heavy activities by European Authorities this appears not to have happened. I have neither seen or heard of any European copies but would be pleased to here of any.
An interesting rollercoaster release, on first appearance excellent two whole discs of Back To The Egg rehearsals, with reasonable artwork, but no real information on the tray art of exactly what you are getting and clearly many 'bootlegger names' for unknown tracks. On opening the 8 page booklet there are extensive note and you feel that if you read through you will know what actually appears on the disc. Then down you go again as you realize that the notes are not specific to the release, but are copied directly from the excellent boo Eight Arms to Hold You.
So off you go to play these discs, brilliant we have what appear to be complete tapes , but they suffer from heavy noise reduction and whilst clear upgrades on what was previously available , they are not as good as they could be. On completion it is apparent that the tracks 17-24 on disc 1 are the only new material and even these are hardly the greatest a nice bonus is the Day Time Night Suffering Rough Mix is available on Disc 2 but not listed on the artwork.
When you start looking at the track listing in depth and where they were previously available it is like looking at a a Yellow Dog Catalogue.
| D1 Tr 1-16 | Eggs Up Cage Records (Vinyl or CD) - These were also released on the Masterfraction release |
| D2 Tr 1-9 | Glasgow '79 (Orange Records) |
| D2 Tr 10-12 | Home Demos (Orange Records) |
| D2 Tr 13-19 | Ballroom Dancing (Orange Records) |
Having looked at the packaging and listened to the tracks, we have a far from perfect release and indeed what we do have could be better, but this is a bootleg and not a commercial release. Upgraded and new material make this a clear Core choice and is very listenable so I would have to say a must for all McCartney fans.
