Comments:

No, it was totally done outside of Capitol by fan bootleggers. It was pressed at a custom pressing plant in Los Angeles for bootleggers impersonating Capitol execs who were nearly caught when someone at the plant needed to discuss some detail of the job and called Capitol direct instead of the "project office" number they had been given. The second volume, "Casualties", was done through regular bootleg avenues.

The Rarities project was described in detail in an old Trouser Press article -- "Every Little Thing: The Story Behind Rarities, the 'New' Beatles LP" in the June 1980 issue. The album was produced by Randall Davis, at the time Capitol's Director of Merchandising and Advertising. Long-time Capitol engineer John Palladino was responsible for the tape assembly.
