Broadcast Show

A further short tour of Scotland and a second visit to the STV Studio to do an interview for the Children's television show Roundup. The show was recorded for latter transmission studio, unlike their first performance in January 1963 , which was broadcast live. After the broadcast the 16mm film was stored and latter assumed lost with the only know surviving footage being an incomplete and silent.

The show showed the boys being interviewed in two different 'poses' and at the end of the show was footage of the Odeon Cinema , Glasgow , prior to a show an during a performance.

Surprisingly or not, as it is becoming more common, the film has been located, this time not mis filed or loaned to another station but in a a 'rusty' tin, in garage in London in 2005 and has been returned to STV.

In July 2008 the audio track of the interviews was used as the background to a 30 minute radio special on BBC Radio 4 and there has been speculation that the footage will receive a viewing latter this year.

The Intervew is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 1.30 pm Tuesday 1st July & rebroadcast at 3.30 pm Saturday 5th July 2008 , no doubt it will become more commonly available thereafter.

Interestingly the story as broadcast by the BBC seems to difer to that put forward in Jorg Pieper & Volker PathAuthors of
The Beatles Film & TV Chronicle 1961-70 as posted in July 2006 in an open forum.

'While the full interview was misplaced in another archive, STV does still hold some silent outtakes from that day in their archive. The footage shows The Beatles inside the STV studios in Glasgow, gathered around a microphone. John and Paul occupy the seats, while George and Ringo stand behind them. Ringo is slowly sneaking away from the camera. Some nice close-up shots show John and Paul in conversation with Morag Hood. The camera then captures George and Ringo sitting on the floor and being interviewed by Paul Young. Later, the film shows the Beatles leaving the studios, with John and Paul, accompanied by Neil Aspinall, walking to the waiting car. Ringo follows after signing some autographs for some lucky fans. The Beatles car leaves the studio area and the police are seen holding back the cheering crowd.'
