The Beatles had not originally planned to play a concert in Adelaide, let alone four sold our shows, but thankfully this was reconsidered after Bob Francis, a local DJ for 5DN, helped collect a petition of 80,000 signatures and John Martin's Store accepted promotional and financial responsibilities for their appearance. It is not surprising then that the 12,000 seats for the four shows were a sell out. Unfortunately for the lucky Adelaide fans to get a ticket, Ringo didn't rejoin the boys until Melbourne on the 14th June and Jimmy Nicol continued as the backup drummer.

The the first show in Adelaide was recorded for broadcast by the Sydney radio station 2SM and was broadcast by Adelaide's local network 5DN the following evening. It appears that as part of the contract to record and broadcast the first show, 5DN were allowed to add their logo to John and Paul's microphone stands. I don't know if these were removed before the late show but they had been removed before the Saturday shows. Knowing the show was to be recorded Bob Francis gives the audience a talk before the show asking them to "scream after the numbers" .

The majority of the 2SM radio show first became available in 1985 on the bootleg album Dolls House and this has since been updated to complete the show and outro by Bob Francis and 'God Save The Queen' being played over the PA as the audience leave.

Video

Unfortunately the only video footage circulating are numerous multi silent source fragments, some of which have had audio from the radio broadcast dubbed on, with varying accuracy. The London auction house Christie's, Sale 9465- Lot 132 sold a silent 16mm B/W film sold in 2002, for £11,363, which included various footage , including this and another Adelaide show, the later has the group wearing pale suits.

I found this dubbed sample on Youtube courtesy Godzzzila69
