NOTES

Whilst we have know of and listened to the Decca Tape version of this song for decades and Cilla Black says that she heard it played in The Cavern by the boys many times; not many people will have heard or even know that Paul recorded a solo demo.

Despite being sold twice in the 1990's by major auction houses little information and more importantly the audio has not become available. It was reported in 1995 that the EMI/Apple were the buyers an there was hope that it would appear in their Anthology Series, it did not like so many other rarities they collected together for the project.

It has been reported that Paul specifically recorded the demo for Cilla Black at George Martin's request which would place a recording date in the summer of 1963 rather than October identified by some sources. Looking at at other Dick James acetates it may have been used for copyright purposes.

The song is identified as a Paul solo with acoustic guitar accompaniment with hand claps , hopefully we will get to hear it one day.

In 1991 a Dick James acetate was sold at Christie's but I don't know which disc it was. If any one has a Catalogue or image could they please provide more details.

Sept 1995 - Lot 859

An Acetate Recording Of 'Love Of The Loved', probably 1963, the single-sided, 7inch Melodisc with Dick James' label over-pasted on one side, with both typewritten and manuscript details, running time approximately 1:42secs., in slip sleeve, label stained and creased, small areas of paper loss The only previously known recording of this very early Mccartney composition was that done during the group's unsuccessful Decca audition, 1st January 1962 The version offered here differs substantially in that it is a solo performance by Paul, with acoustic guitar accompaniment and handclaps. It was probably recorded as a demo, for Dick James to interest another artist to record it. The song was issued eventually as Cilla Black's debut release in September 1963 Although the sound quality has suffered over the last thirty years, is acetate is unquestionably a rare if not unique addition to the body of early Beatles' recorded work.
