DICK JAMES

|
| Whilst there are several web sites providing details of Beatles Acetates, I think that this is the only one that provides a chronology for each disc. So whether you own, are buying or selling a disc, why not add to the history of these rare and collectable discs. A little closer look at the differnt styles available. | ||

| There are two trains of thought around these double artist discs, the first that they are fake pairings, where a Beatles track has been added to increase the value. I have yet to handle one, but would like to do so. Looking at how and when they appear I am not convinced, they could just as well be a a way of Dick James collecting it's copyright details. |

Unfortunately these pressed vinyl discs are commonly sold/displayed as acetates when they do appear, which is not very often and usually command a high price for what is just a label variation. They are pressed commercial releases and if the Dick James label had been attached at the time of pressing the label would be fused to the record and have the four pronged centre. I have yet to see any versions like this. If one does appear the stamper number should be checked and I would expect it to be 'JR' or 'G' for the earliest pressings. Without the pronged centre, I must assume that the labels have been added after presssing. Clearly discs with glued labels would be far easier to FAKE. So far all the variations I have seen have the later label and the 4 prong centre can usually be seen through the label. |
