Release Notes:

Okay ... So what's this? "Live At The Hollywood Bowl ... Again?" Huh?

Well, not unlike the Ebbetts attempt to present the famed Rooftop Concert in a tighter, more presentable way, attempting to envision how Apple *might* have issued such a thing (Last Licks Live), so has Ebbetts done with the Beatles' performance of August 30, 1965 at the Hollywood Bowl. This release is the logical follow up to the "Live At The Hollywood Bowl" project from 1964.

This recording is not quite as good as the 1964 show - both in terms of actual sound quality and (subjectively) in several of the performances. Performance wise, John isn't really at his best - except for perhaps, Dizzy Miss Lizzie, which sounds okay. And take note of the second chorus run-through of "I'm Down." Paul, while sounding good vocally, is about a fourth of a bar ahead of the band (Actually, the band came in too late initially ... whatever). It sounds quite bizarre. That's what you get when you have no "fold back" speakers.

Sound quality-wise, this release is chuck-full of good old fashioned analogue tape hiss - bestill my heart. (I HATE noise reduction). However, I do believe that this recording is among the best sounding of this particular performance. The artwork is completely original, made to replicate (for the most) the general style of the time. The audio contained here is NOT the complete unedited 1965 show - which Ebbetts will eventually make available - but is, instead, a carefully edited version made to represent what such an album *might* have sounded like had Capitol released it, very much in the spirit of the 1964 acetate. Much of the chatter is edited and the presentation is tighter.

[Doc Dec 2006]

You are correct. This is a simple TYPE-B Mono mix of the stereo show listed above ... This isn't mandatory for your collection, if you're getting the stereo - or perhaps, vice versa. This is really for the completists only. I may even discontinue it at some point. A very very SLIGHT touch of reverb was added to the mono mix - otherwise it sounds almost identical to the stereo release.

There is ONE thing different that was really not done INTENTIONALLY. (I mean that). The spoken introduction by George Harrison on the song "Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby" is seven seconds longer on the mono version than the stereo. While editing out chatter and miscellaneous space - which, for some reason, I did separately to each mix rather than to the stereo mix first BEFORE creating the Type-B mono - I obviously missed something. Sorry about that.
