As far as Ebbetts is concerned, this LP was a necessary venture. Like George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass," this is a terrific LP that was given absolutely HORRIBLE treatment in the digital domain. The CD versions of this release simply sound lifeless and squashed. The noise reduction used is downright criminal as far as I'm concerned (and many thousands agree with me). The EQ on the commercial CD releases is a touch too harsh on certain tracks as well. This is, of course, taken straight from the original LP.

May 2006 Comment

Somehow, I knew I would make this mastake, and I did ... No one - myself at the top of the list - caught this mistake along the quality-control line I use to make sure these releases are good to go. Of course, that's no excuse.
The people I use to help me with these releases as quality control people are the best. Make no MISTAKE about it, the fault is COMPLETELY mine and no one elses...

Originally, I planned to release the Plastic Ono Band MFSL LP, seeing as so many requested it. I own one sealed copy and one copy I've played a few times. I transferred it, made a pre-master, completed artwork for it and put it aside for April's release.
Then, I decided I would rather do the original US LP instead. I did not own one worthy of use, so I picked up a near mint, almost pristine copy of the LP. Like the MFSL LP, I transferred it, made a pre-master, completed artwork for it and put it aside for April's release.

Then came the error.

I saved the MFSL LP file as "lennon_pob_1"
I saved the APPLE LP file as "lennon_pob__1" (with an extra underscore between the pob and the 1).

In the program I use to index CDs, I mistakenly chose the first one. That's the master that went out to my quality control people whom I ask to check for stray pops and crackles I may have missed, and that's the one I sent out to those of you who ordered it. Of course, you got the original LP artwork - not the MFSL artwork.

Eventually, I will release the MFSL version.


I am a psychotic-obsessive fool when it comes to knowing original mixes from RE-mixes. I am anal about it. The clearest - and most well-known way - of telling the original Plastic Ono Band Lp from the MFSL version is to listen to the introduction of "Hold On," the LP's second track. The original release has a shorter intro to the song (Actually, the intro is sort of "cut off"). The MFSL version has the "complete" intro. This is WELL-KNOWN. I CERTAINLY KNOW IT! Unfortunately, I did it again when it comes to the naming and renaming of files.
