An exceptionally short John Lennon themed release around two television broadcasts in 1975 providing more than one source for each, including some alternate takes and mixes but unfortunately a not very listenable disc. I find looking looking at audio bootlegs for video TV broadcasts strange,and I must make the time compare what is on the video footage that circulates and the core sources. The Old Grey Whistle Test - John Lennon Remastered Archive 1975- FAB Productions With some of the material appearing on alternate sources in better quality this disc is probably for completist only. The caricature on the cover slip case was drawn by no other than the artist William Stout who will be well known to collectors of Vinyl bootleg and his inspirational TMOQ record covers. However this Japanese bootlegger has not commissioned the artwork but has merely cut the image of John Lennon's murderer, who will not be named, from the ill conceived cover of the Rhino Records 1982 The Best Of The Beatles Novelty Records - RNLP803 , which had to be withdrawn because of ill feeling over the complete cover (see below) There has been debate over the location of the Lew Grade Tribute show, but this has been confirmed as Grand Ballroom Hilton, New York by Dave Wilson , who edited the show, and will hopefully now put this debate to bed. |
