It is apparent now that I have been tuning Strawberry Fields Forever to the wrong keys in the past. I'm not sure how many discs are affected, but at least some of them are wrong. I have come to my senses about the tuning of these recordings. Since the two versions were a semitone apart, and the orchestral version was slowed down to match the earlier take, I have placed takes 2-7 in B flat, and the orchestral takes in B on this CD, and will put them in these keys on subsequent issues. A major indicator that I'm right is that the timbre of the engineer's voice giving the slate is the same on both now, but the fact that if you redo the edit George Martin made from take 7 into 26 slowed down to match, it sounds like the record now. I think I've finally got it right. Recording information on the back insert was corrected. The rest of the disc sounds wonderful as well. No processing, just pitch, phase and level correction, and it sounds great |
