The first release from a new subsidiary Repro-man of the Vigotone Label, probably to fill a hole in the market as the direct result of the major activity by the authorities targeting European titles entering the US in 1997 . This title copies the Midnight Beat title of the same name, with the exception of a single coma in the title, new artwork and the addition of a a Lost Lennon Tapes track Dear Prudence but No lavish packaging Label collectors will no doubt
want this title, but other wise I would recommend looking for the original
Factory Pressed |
The third Beatles related outing from the close friend of the well known Yellow Dog label, no lavish packaging this time and from the track listing what appears to be an audio remake of Alfred Hitchcock's film the Birds and what looks as if it may be a heavy going rehearsal disc. What we have instead is a stunning audio record of the 'Blackbird Rehearsal Sessions from June 1968 , which was filmed in part and used for the Apple Promotional film. The only parts of the rehearsal to previously appear were from this promotion film and appeared on Disc 3 , Miscellaneous Tracks of the Yellow Dog's Ultimate Collection Vol. 1 and the Black Dog release Hodge Podge 2. The sound quality is good mono of Paul vocalizing whilst playing an acoustic guitar and even though there is a flock of blackbirds this is a very enjoyable disc. I envisaged when initially looking at the track listing that Hey Jude and Dear Prudence were little more than filler, how wrong can you be. With both being newly located outtake and mix respectively. In deed after a decade the whole disc remains a core title. With in a couple of months, not surprisingly the title was cloned, what was surprising is that it was by the well respected Vigotone label on a new Subsidiary label Repro-Man. No lavish packaging , or even factory pressed disc, but one additional track was tacked on the end. I can only assume that the activities of the Authorities at the time made Midnight Beat titles and indeed any volume CD traffic into the United States difficult. There is also a Hawgleg Records copy available , I have yet to hear this but I assume that there are the usual quality issues . |
