From the forth coming release announcement in May 1996, through to it's release and withdrawal in December 1996 and then subsequent reissue; even through to date, there has been a mystery around this release surrounded by self perpetuating stories. It is probably true to say that coming up to a decade after it's release the true story is not clear or that I can see published. Many web sites recycle the same limited images or rely upon one of the several available fakes to fill spaces, even 'Azing's book The Bootleg Collection Vol.2 guide to the Yellow Dog Titles uses images of Fakes and has a confused story. I have yet to find a fake release that is an audio clone so, excluding the handful of discs sold before it's official release. Originally Collectors who did not have an original, which will be limited to 1200, plus a handful that were recalled, would not have a factory pressed audio clone of this excellent title . At the time of it's release we were offered so much new material and the dream of an up and coming series of releases - 'Let It Be Day By Day '. Ultimately The Day By Day Series will make this deluxe and exceptionally limited release , obsolete, but I believe that it will remain a core collectable , because of not only the myths surrounding it but because of 'timing' . Leaning On A Lamppost was probably the first Bootleg where a world-wide audience watch report after report, awaited it's release only to find that it was not going to be as commonly available as all previously available Yellow Dog's . What did the new 'Master' have install for the future. |
The first instalments became available in 2000 with first runs being released in Japan by Yellow Dog - Japan and latter Yellow Dog - Europe as clones but using alternate CD masters. As the result of pressure from the Authorities it looked like both runs were going to stop, somewhat like the Old Beatles at The Beeb series . The collectors market quickly started to fill the void with CDR issues of the remaining titles using alternate sources for the Nagra reels. Yellow Dog (Fake) CDRs appeared for Volumes 29-32 and Purple Dog completed the series. Whilst Yellow Dog-Europe ceased production , The Japanese series continued to completion in 2004. Strawberry Records a subsidiary company of Yellow Dog however , started issue a series of Camera B Nagra reels in 2004 and as of 2005 have issued 6 volumes. |
Well it shouldn't be to difficult, bearing in mind the deluxe packaging. But look at the Fake Edition of the Get Back Journals II , box book and all. Additionally there appear to be many copies of the White Digipak, Third Version, available with out slip and packaging that , there may be copies with non original Jewel case and discs. As usual the easiest start is the disc art , if not even close , do not move on. Then check the matrix from the playing side of the CD. Does it have a matrix ring and this matrix : QF5901 IFPI L111 , all OK so far. Now for the very keen eyed you will need to continue looking at the playing surface. You are looking for a moulding SID actually pressed into the plastic. The moulding SID is the number engraved on the mould that manufacturers the disc, soa difference could be down to no more than a different print run, however with bootlegs which tend to be only very small runs , it is a good guide to a new press run. The moulding SID appears to be missing on several version 2 discs , usually with a limited edition number in the 400's . As the pressing plant have clearly used a latter mould for version 3 the picture disc version, see separate page, it is not unreasonable that at this time of change at pressing plants that version 1 and any any version 2 discs without a moulding SID are an earlier pressing. This Moulding SID appears on both 2nd and 3rd versions, as they discs have been pressed on a different machine they have different IDs'. Version 2's SID appears directly opposite the first square the above matrix, see image below; version 3's is in a slightly different place , see separate web page. Version 1 - NONE Version 2 - NONE - Only observed on several discs numbered between 400-499 and a single Contemporarily Obtained disc Version 2 - IFPI2215 Version 3 - IFPI2225 - Alternate position nearer spindle hole. Version 4 - IFPI2215 Version 5 - IFPI2215 Initially it was unclear whether a fourth edition ever existed , all I had was a vague reference and an image , with a slip case , without a gold sticker and a red obi sporting a Yellow Dog logo. Whilst I have no evidence to support an assumption , I believe that the later fourth edition is available in a black slip case WITHOUT limited edition numbered slip tray and some of the inserts. The disc is identical to version 2 and is still gold pressed. These versions , may just be incomplete or damaged earlier versions. However I have now see so many copies without a slip tray I can not believe that dealers have stripped that many digipaks , version 2 . If you have further details drop me a line Version 5 is simply the Jewel case edition without the Deluxe packaging. I first came across these discs in 2005 , but can only assume that they were around before now, with collectors letting them go once they had completed their Day By Day Series. Another assumption I know but I haven't seen any Japanese shops currently selling these and if they were just hitting the streets you would expect them to be up for sale. |
I have built an ever growing Database, currently just under 20% ,of this very expensive but collectable title. I am logging what is available with each of the numbered edition releases. If you have one of these ands wish to either add your details or check whether your version has been previously logged , drop me a line. There are many variations and it appears that some discs may being partially stripped to make up more than one look alike original. This is especially true of the third 'white digipak release which seems to becoming rarer to be complete with black slip case. ALL information will be held in the strictest confidence, I will mere disclose whether the Limited edition number you hold is logged and if so whether you have the same attachments/ enclosures as the previous logging. |
