Comments:

An exceptionally hard to find and very short Japanese release of the Cavern Rehearsals in Autumn 1962 rehearsals. After over a decade and a half this remains the most complete source of this rehearsal.

Subsequent releases by Yellow Dog and others have been in slightly better quality, but are incomplete. With the 910 guides currently recommending Yellow Dog's titles The Early Years, 1962, Decca Tapes Revised, Right Speed or The Decca Tapes , both have been pressed from the same master.

So when does this tape date from?

Ringo can be heard after the first version of Catswalk, latter to be re-titled as Catcall' saying "I Finished Early" as the result of stopping a couple of bars before everyone else. As he joined the group in August 1962 and with the them leaving for Hamburg in December this would place this rehearsal between the two dates.

It is unclear whether what we have hear is a complete tape or part of one , it is apparent either way that the tape has been edited with clear evidence that he tape has been rewound at least once , with stray 'count ins' and the tape machine noise as the start of version 1 of The One After 909.

Interestingly in the Illegal Beatles Issue 18 and Back Issues 1989-90, it prints "JOHN: You Got That Beginning,Stu? between track 2 and 3 . I have no idea where this suggestion comes from does Doug (?) have and alternate source for this material or I am I just missing a joke? the review also suggests that he believes the source NOT to be from 1962 but from between the Quarrymen and the Star-Club periods. His latest guide clearly places the rehearsal to the Fall of 1962.

After over two decades as a CORE title. Masterjedi a fan label remastered this title in 2014, retaining the disc title, correcting some of the 'glitches' and becoming the preferred source for this material , which seems a shame in certain ways but is worth looking out.
