Written whilst on tour an in Paris in January and February 1964, as a 'give way' composition for Dick James. The song was recorded in their hotel room in the George V Hotel , Paris where a piano was available and the composition was returned to the UK where an acetate was cut for Dick James for copyright purposes. Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas declined the song, as did The Fourmost despite some further assistance with the song from John and Paul. It was eventually recorded by the South African group The Strangers with Mike Shannon with further alterations and was released by Decca on the 8th May 1964. The only Beatles version available comes from an acetate and was not released on the Anthology series. |
