Comments:

A European copy of disc 1 of the historic Artifacts box set , whilst the disc has alternate mastering it appears to be an audio clone and even retains the original disc's CDID.

Easily identifiable with the missing 'Big Music' logo on the artwork and the mistitled disc. Not being part of a box set with detailed booklet this copy includes a gatefold cover with a detailed track listing, albeit it difficult to read because of the continued use of orange text.

Original Comments:

The first disc of what became a two box sets each containing five CD's of Beatles rarities. A difficult disc to review over a decade after it's historic release prior to the ugly official anthology series. A collection of Pre Beatles , Home ,Studio , Radio and TV recordings in varying quality but they are some what out dated now with all material available not only in better quality but also presented in a better way. Any one now looking for a chronological releases would be better off looking for fan created releases on either the Silent Sea or Purple Chick labels.

The tracks are identified with track listing sthought to be corret at the time rather than a Bootlegger spinning teh collector a line. What was originally Hamburg has positively been identified as Liverpool 1960.

The Early Years lost it's core status in 1998 with the release of the Silent Sea release BC620101 V1 The Beatles Complete January 1 to September 5, 1962

There are the usual printed CDR fakes which use copies of the original Big Music artwork there is also a factory pressed issue with recreated artwork and disc art without the label or contact details. I assume that this was produced by another label cashing in on the popularity of the series. The cover art of these is easy to spot without the Big Music logos and amended catalogue numbers being BIG4029 - 1/10 .
